NPCIL_ProjectsMonitorThe proposed site management building is associated with the 2,800-MWe (4×700) Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (nuclear power project), Units 1 to 4, in Gorakhpur village, Fatehabad district, Harayan, for which Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan sigh had laid the foundation stone in January this year.

Phase-I of GHAVP will entail the commissioning of two units producing 1,400 MWe of electricity. These will be completed by 2020-21. The capacity will be doubled in phase-II reaching a total capacity of 2,800 MWe. Phase-I is expected to generate employment for 8,000 to 10,000 persons.

The Haryana government has provided 1,319 acres (534 hectares) of land for the project and nearly 186 acres (75 hectares) for housing colonies for plant and CISF. The Ministry of Environment and Forests granted environment clearance for the project in December 2013.

The Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana plant site is situated upstream of Kajalheri head regulator on the left bank of the Fatehabad branch of Bhakra canal, about 218 km from Chandigarh, the capital of Haryana. From Delhi, NH-10, located 6 km away, passes through Rohtak, Hansi and Hisar. The entire highway from Delhi to Hisar and further up to Kharakheri is black topped and considered good for over-dimensional consignments.

The proposed 700 MWe PHWR rectors are indigenous and will be similar to those under construction in Gujarat (KAPP 3 & 4) and Rajasthan (RAPP 7 & 8). Likewise, the reactor size and design features of the 700 MWe reactors will be similar to that of 540 MWe reactors of TAPP 3 &4 units, except that partial boiling of coolant up to about 3 per cent (nominal) at the coolant channel exit has been allowed.

Being developed at an estimated cost of Rs.23,500 crore, GHAVP will be the first nuclear power plant in Haryana and will be the 21st such plant in India.
