NTPC will invest Rs. 89,335 crore in 20 ongoing projects which include thermal power plants, hydroelectric projects, solar power projects and mining projects. NTPC is planning to invest this sum by the end of 2017. This is as part of its strategy to become a 51,000 MW plus company by end of 2017. Of this amount, Rs. 62,535 crore will be funded through borrowings and rest will be through internal accruals. Current year’s capital outlay is to the tune of Rs. 22,400 crore.

NTPC is presently implementing 17,744 MW capacity addition programme and of this 16,210 MW is in thermal power sector. Further, the company is also executing four hydro power projects with aggregate capacity of 1,499 MW. Two solar projects, Rajgarh Solar PV and Singrauli Solar PV, form a minor component of NTPC’s massive capacity addition programme. In addition to these projects, NTPC is also implementing two coal mining projects. In all there are 20 projects currently under execution entailing a total investment of Rs. 1,35,938 crore. Of this, the company has already spent Rs. 46,603 crore as of March 2014.
