The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the premier entity planning and executing projects in India’s financial capital, on December 29, announced that it had commissioned infrastructure projects worth nearly Rs. 6,000 crore in Mumbai.

The key projects include:

* India’s first monorail, the 8.93-km Chembur-Wadala corridor worth Rs.1,200 crore, and Mumbai’s first metro rail, the 11.40-km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Line 1 costing Rs.2,365 crore.

* The 17-km Eastern Freeway built at an estimated cost of Rs.1,464 crore; the 3.5-km Santacruz-Chembur Link Road constructed at a cost of around Rs. 428 crore; the 1,096-metre long flyover at Amar Mahal Junction valued at Rs. 76 crore; the 2-km long Sahar Elevated Road worth Rs.400 crore; and the southbound arm of Kherwadi flyover built at a cost of around Rs. 22 crore.

In addition, MMRDA cleared projects worth Rs.69,425 crore to ramp up infrastructure in Mumbai. These include the 33.5-km Colaba-Bandra-Seepz (Rs.24,340 crore), the 40-km Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd (Rs. 25,605 crore) and the 32-km Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali (Rs.19,097 crore) metro rail projects.

The developer also approved four flyovers at Bandra-Kurla junction and Bandra-Kurla-Chunabhatti connector at an estimated cost of Rs. 227 crore and Rs. 156 crore respectively. These projects are expected to ease traffic in Bandra-Kurla Complex.

At present, MMRDA is executing projects worth Rs.22,816 crore. It will take up the 22-km Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project estimated to cost Rs.9,630 crore and phase-I of the Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor costing around Rs.9,326 crore.

Besides these, the authority is also implementing the 10.24-km Wadala-Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk monorail corridor (phase-II) at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,260 crore and Extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project worth around Rs.2,600 crore. The extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project includes development of a 275-km long road network, 14 flyovers, three creek bridges and two road over-bridges.

PMC for two major projects
MMRDA has invited tenders in connection with two major projects in Raigad district of Maharashtra. These are appointment of project management consultants for the construction of the Khopoli Bypass road with minor bridges, costing 23.79 crore and to be completed in 12 months; and for the widening and improvement of the Neral-Dasturi Road on SH-109, the main road leading up to Matheran hill station.
