Solar Power_SECI_ProjectsMonitorThe Solar Energy Corporation of India, which functions under the administrative control of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and is the executing arm of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission for development, promotion and commercialization of solar power technologies in the country, has invited Request for Empanelment from companies to implement mini and micro grid solar Photovoltaic power projects for .

Mini and micro grids have several advantages. Firstly, they are most suitable for rural electrification and considered ideal for remote villages without grid connectivity. Secondly, the grids being independent systems can be controlled and managed without presenting any threat to the conventional grid. Thirdly, such distributed energy systems provide reliable electricity as any outages or interruptions can be quickly identified and corrected. Lastly, having the site of power generation closer to the load reduces transmission and distribution losses thereby improving techno economic viability of the system.

The SECI will empanel a total of 10 companies for the execution of solar PV based mini and micro grid projects. Initially, the period of empanelment is going to be two years but it may be extended further. The final selection of the implementing agencies will be made from among the empanelled companies through bidding.
