ACME-Solar-MPTelangana South Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd (TSSPDCL) has finalized over 80 technically-qualified bidders with respect to the company’s 2 GW tender. Telangana had offered projects through competitive bidding with a maximum tariff of Rs.6.45 per kwh. Developers are expected to enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement with the state utility. This tender is widely believed to be the biggest solar tender floated by a state utility under the National Solar Mission.

Speaking to Projectmonitor, a senior official of TSSPDCL confirmed that while the list of technically qualified bidders was finalized, the final allotment would be done by August 13. However, unconfirmed reports suggest that bids were received for over 4,600 mw against the 2,000 mw put on offer.

Delhi-based ACME Solar won around 446 mw of capacity at an average tariff of Rs.5.84 per kwh. The company had bid for 510 mw worth of projects. Other prominent names in the fray are SunEdison, Adani Power, Reliance Power, Suzlon Energy, Shapoorji Pallonji, Hero Future Energies, and Fonroche Energie SAS. Suzlon, which is said to have bagged orders worth 210 mw would be the first among wind companies in India to have jumped into the solar wagon. Gamesa, another wind energy player, recently announced its intention of foraying into solar powr.

SkyPower Southeast Asia Holdings quoted Rs.5.17 per kwh, reports suggest, making it one of the lowest bids for solar power. This Mauritius-based company has already won projects in Madhya Pradesh, quoting tariffs very aggressively.

In September 2014, Telangana had invited bids for 500 mw of solar power capacity. Subsequently, 33 projects were allotted with Renew Solar Power (100 mw), First Solar Power (50 mw) and ACME Solar (50 mw) being the prominent winners.
