The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has recentlyapproved two NHAI projects—six laning of Vadodara-Surat section of NH-8 in Gujarat and Gaya-Hisua-Rajgir-Nalanda-Biharsharif section of NH-82 in Bihar.

Vadodara-Surat section: The NHAI project under NHDP-Phase V was awarded to HCC Concessions Ltd, a subsidiary of Hindustan Construction Company Ltd, in 2012, and includes construction of a new four-lane extra dosed bridge across Narmada river and two eight-lane flyovers at an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore. The 6.7-km project scope involves six laning of road from km 192 to km 198 between Vadodara and Surat section in Bharuch district of Gujarat. This is among the final stretches to be expanded to six-lane capacity on NH-8. The highway passes through the state capitals of Gandhinagar and Jaipur, as well as important cities like Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara.

The concession period for this project is 12 years, including construction period of 30 months.

 Gaya-Hisua-Rajgir-Nalanda-Biharsharif section: The four laning of the 93-km long stretch of NH-82 in Bihar is being undertaken by Bihar State Road Development Corporation Ltd at an estimated cost of  Rs 1,050 crore. The project is being funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency. The loan agreement is likely to be signed with JICA by end of February 2014.

BSRDCL told Projectmonitor that it had submitted the prequalification to JICA and was awaiting approval. The corporation is likely to invite tenders for civil works by March 2014.
