Dr. Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman, IHS, has been honoured with the International Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the petroleum industry. The award was presented to him by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Petrotech energy conference held in New Delhi on January 12, 2014.
Dr. Yergin, a Pulitzer Prize winning energy expert, was recognised for his unique contribution in shaping the world’s energy future with his intellectual leadership, insight, clear vision and practical guidance.
The Petrotech International Lifetime Achievement award salutes outstanding individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the petroleum industry.
The prime minister appreciated Dr. Yergin’s sharp focus on energy’s essential role in improving people’s lives. “His work highlights the essential global interdependence of the energy system and the need for international cooperation to meet the challenges of tomorrow,” Singh said, adding that his books like The Prize, Commanding Heights, and The Quest had a positive impact on thinking and policy around the world.
Dr. Yergin said, “Energy is the lifeblood of our global economy, and the elements that shape its future are many and the consequences are great. As an outstanding global gathering of those energy minds that are shaping that future, Petrotech makes an indispensable contribution to the innovation and forward thinking that are the hallmarks of our energy world.”
His book, The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power, which has been translated into 17 languages, earned him the Pulitzer Prize. One of the main focuses of his book The Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy is India’s economic reforms and their global context.
