Hanita Coatings RCA Ltd is a private company owned by Kibbutz Hanita and Tene Investments, situated in Kibbutz Hanita, in Israel. The company specialises in the development and conversion of coated, laminated and metallised films for a range of industrial and commercial applications. Jyoti Devjani, in an email interaction with Lalitha Rao, spoke about the company’s future plans in India.

What are the key trends that create opportunities for smart window films manufacturers in India?
The increasing use of glass in buildings and the increasing awareness and responsibility of corporates, builders and architects towards greener and safer environments are the key trends that are creating opportunities for us to promote our energy efficient and safety security films.

Window films are used to enhance the performance and safety of existing glass in buildings. These films improve the external appearance of the glazing, and increase comfort and protection for the occupants. Solar control window films minimise glare and hotspots; reduce solar heat gain and energy consumption; and virtually eliminate damaging UV radiation.

Safety and security window films act as protective layers that will help hold fractured shards of glass together if the glass should shatter. Safety films are also available with solar control properties.

The demand for smart window films is on the rise in the Indian construction industry. What are your company’s plans in this direction?
Hanita offers a wide variety of solar, safety and decorative window film solutions to meet precise project requirements to reduce energy consumption and provide safety and enhance aesthetics.

When applied to existing glass, SolarZone solar control window films upgrade energy performance and enhance the building’s long-term sustainability. Solar- Zone energy-efficient window films filter solar radiation passing through glass to effectively reduce heat buildup, so interiors stay cooler and HVAC systems have a lower workload.

The energy-saving proposition is simple: when HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) systems don’t have to work so hard to heat or cool the room, that’s a saving in energy and money. A great quick and easy way to save energy and cost for buildings including hotels, airports, hospitals and corporates.

Hanita is working with architects and builders for incorporating the films for green/sustainable projects as they help attain green certification and LEED points, thus helping the project reach its green goals. Also, corporate, Hotels, large facilities stand to save significantly on energy costs, thus helping operations become more profitable.

On the safety front, many sensitive buildings like consulates, hotels, airports, government buildings and projects, and buildings with large glass facades, be they commercial residential or industrial, create safer environment for employees and guests/visitors and will be approached.

SafetyZone safety and security window films adhere to the interior of the glass to act as protective layers to help secure shards and splinters if the glass should shatter. They transform the most vulnerable and threatening area of your workplace or home into a more secure environment.

What are the opportunities in the Indian market? Which are the geographic regions for growth?
We are working pan-India and would really like to see more and more corporates embrace energy savings; after all, energy conserved is energy gained and money saved is money earned. Besides being a responsibility, it is now almost a necessity to save energy. Unfortunately, a lot of times, where a builder is not occupying the building that is being constructed, he may not be so motivated to spend the money upfront in energy and safety benefits for the end user.

The installation of the right Safety Zone film can minimise the threat of glass related injury resulting from impact, collision, blast or natural disaster in any building.

Manufactured in Israel, the epicentre of the Middle East, Safety Zone films are tried and tested again and again. In Israel, the airports, malls, countless buses, schools and hospitals are secured by Hanita Safety Zone film. Tough, dependable, life-saving, even where it’s dangerous, it’s good to know there’s a Safety Zone.

As far as geographical spread is concerned, while we are headquartered in Mumbai, we undertake projects pan-India and plan to penetrate further into the residential, commercial and hospitality platforms. We are closely working with some leading corporate and prestigious hotels.

How does Hanita Window Films help sustainable building projects?
Hanita Window Films can get your building a lot closer to attaining the prestigious Leeds Green Building Certification and also helps lower your energy footprint and carbon emissions, making your building a greener and more sustainable project.

By cutting down on energy consumption, Hanita window films help conserve a very precious and limited resource of this planetenergy. It really is as simple as just installing a suitable film on the glass to achieve up to 30 per cent reduction in energy consumption and costs and reduce carbon footprint.

What are the technologies Hanita has adapted for smart window films? What are their advantages and disadvantages?
Hanita has nearly 30 years of experience in metallising, multilaminate laminating and chemical coating for diverse industrial applications. We have drawn on this professional knowledge and capacity to build a compact, consistent and innovative window film line. Our proprietary manufacturing processes and advanced testing allow us to produce films equal or superior in performance to almost all window films available on the market today.

All Hanita window films share remarkable levels of clarity and cleanliness. This is the result of our determination to use only top quality polyester films, our superior chemistry formulations, advanced processing methods, clean room production environment, and tight adherence to demanding ISO 9001-2008 quality assurance standards.

Due to its advanced technology and manufacturing, SolarZone is able to provide the perfect solution to meet your precise needs in any project with a range of reflective, dual reflective, clear, spectrally selective and speciality films that payback for themselves with one to three years.

Safety film is manufactured from single or multiple layers of tough, optically clear polyester film laminated together in a variety of constructions. One side of the film is coated with an extremely powerful adhesive formula that is applied to the interior surface of the glass, whilst the exterior (room facing) side is protected with a special scratch-resistant coating. We have some speciality products exclusive to us, such as:

Xtrazone: Created especially for harsher outdoors conditions and applied externally, Exterior films by Hanita bring exceptional energy efficiency to double (IGU), triple glazed, and low E units. Exterior window films provide the highest levels of energy efficiency of all window film types, and can double the amount of solar energy rejected in comparison to similar interior-installed film.

PolyZone Films for application to rigid plastic glazing: Suitable for most polycarbonate (PC) and acrylic (PMMA) glazing, Hanita’s polyester-based PolyZone films share the same crisp optical clarity and superior solar performance of all SolarZone window films and feature a special scratch resistant coating suitable for external installation and a clean removal that wont harm the substrate. Warranted not to bubble, blister or delaminate. Recommended for application on PC and acrylic skylights, conservatories, atriums, stadiums and walkways.

Solar Safety: Hanita Coatings offers a line of Safety films that combine the strength of security films with the remarkable heat rejection and anti-glare properties .The Safety Zone range also includes films that provide significant solar heat control by rejecting infrared energy, contributing to energy efficiency, saving costs, protection from UV radiation, glare reduction, furniture/furnishing protection and increasing occupant comfort and productivity.

All Hanita products are backed by its global distribution network, dedicated customer service, and outstanding technical support.
