Pakri-Barwadih contractor yet to be finalised
PM News Bureau
There is considerable delay in the finalisation of a contractor for developing Pakri-Barwadih captive coal block by NTPC. It may be recalled that NTPC had issued a tender inviting expression of interest for mine development, management and operations, including associated infrastructure to operate and maintain a coal mine at the block in October 2005.
But since then nothing much has happened. The power ministry concerned by the delay in finalising the contractor recently directed the power major to speed up the proceedings so that coal production from the captive block could begin by December 2007 as per schedule.
The project envisages development and operation of Pakri-Barwadih coal block in Jharkhand by NTPC for its captive use. NTPC would develop and operate this block into a coal mine of 10 million tpa initial capacity with the help of mine developer and operator.
