Shapoorji's mass housing plan at Rajarhat

Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. Ltd will be constructing 20,000 apartments in Kolkata on 150 acres of land. The apartments are exclusively meant for low income and middle income group families. The mass housing project will come up at Action Area-III in New Town, Rajarhat. The project, named SP City, will be completed by 2010. The project is estimated to cost Rs 1,500 crore. The project will result in construction of 10 million sq. ft of built-up area. The size of each apartment will vary between 400 and 600 sq. ft. Of the 20,000 apartments planned, 12,000 apartments will be one BHK and the rest will be two BHK flats.
The project also includes construction of two primary schools, a mini-hospital, child health check-up centre, corner stores and a shopping arcade. Singapore-based Surbana International will design the project.
