Denim dreams
PM News Bureau
Aviva Industries Ltd, which started trading in POY,
texturised yarn and fabric in 2005-06, is setting up a denim-fabric
manufacturing facility at Moti Bhoyan, Gandhinagar, with an installed capacity
of 137.45 lakh metres per annum. The total cost of the project is Rs 63.50 crore.
Initially, the company planned to establish the manufacturing facility at Piplaj,
Ahmedabad, at an estimated cost of Rs 57.44 crore. The project was even
appraised by SBI Capital Markets Ltd in September 2005. Subsequently, the
company decided to set up the facility at Moti Bhoyan, Gandhinagar. Piplaj comes
under the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority's town planning scheme wherein
no agricultural land can be converted to industrial land.
The denim manufacturing plant will be set up on land measuring 77,223 sq. yards.
Acquisition of land is not yet complete. Since the land identified for the
project is agricultural land the company has to arrange for approval from the
concerned District Authority for conversion to non-agricultural land and its use
for industrial purpose. The plant is expected to go on stream in December 2006.
