Swapnil Yande & Shashank Rao
The Government of Maharashtra plans to set up another body to oversee the
completion of the remaining - and the most critical - phases of the Mumbai Metro
Rail Project, an MMRDA official told Projectmonitor. "The Maharashtra government
has passed a resolution to form Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, which will take
another three months to establish in its physical form," he said.
The state government has authorised the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development
Authority to take up pending work on the metro rail project for which the
necessary formalities and registration is under way.
Meanwhile, physical work on line-II (Colaba-Bandra-Charkop) has begun as he
preliminary survey on the site location has been completed. Survey report of
line-III (Mahim-Kurla-Mankhurd) of this project has been completed and will soon
be submitted to the state Cabinet. The proposed Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation
will decide the future of these two lines and its members will be empowered to
take decisions. For instance, the corporation will decide whether the project
should be implemented on BOT/BOOT basis or on its own.
