NTPC has sought mega status for the hydro electric power projects which the
company is implementing in Uttaranchal. The company wants mega power status for
its 600 mw Loharinag Pala and 520 mw Tapovan Vishnigadh hydro electric projects.
The proposed capacity of both the projects is more than 500 mw which is the
threshold capacity for a hydro project to qualify for mega status under the
existing policy.
Tapovan Vishnugad Hydel Power Project envisages setting up a hydel power plant
across the River Dhauliganga in Chamoli district of Uttaranchal. The project
would entail investment of Rs 2,158 crore.
The project envisages setting up a 600 mw hydel power plant across River
Bhagirathi, a tributary of river Ganga in Uttarkashi district of Uttaranchal. It
will be located about 190 km from Rishikesh and the project is estimated to cost
Rs 2,417.78 crore. Both the projects are scheduled for completion during the
11th Plan.
