Land for Lara not yet released

PM News Bureau

Land acquisition for NTPC's 4,000 mw pit-head thermal project at Lara, Chhattisgarh, has still remained a problem. The power major has not yet received clearance from the state government for land acquisition.
NTPC has approached the power ministry to prevail upon the state government to speed up the clearance process. Another major area of concern is the tying up water supply required for the project. The same has not yet been cleared by the state government. In the mean time NTPC has almost completed the topographical survey, EIA study, area drainage study and seismic study.
The Lara project is scheduled for commissioning in the 11th Plan itself. Several states have shown interest in buying power from the proposed plant. Delhi government has come forward to buy 1,000 mw power. NTPC has allocated 1,500 mw from the proposed project to Punjab..
