35 projects cleared before elections

Just before going into assembly elections, the empowered
committee of the Punjab government approved 26 industrial, two agro and seven
housing and township projects. The 35 projects entail an investment of Rs
7,313.11 crore. The projects include 16 multiplexes-cum-hotels and four hotels
in Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Bathinda, Moga,
Phagwara and Mohali districts entailing an investment of Rs 2,701.23 crore.
A spokesperson for Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation said that the
empowered committee had also approved two manufacturing projects in Ludhiana
district with an investment of Rs 578.79 crore. The committee also cleared three
projects of industrial parks in Hoshiarpur, Mohali and Amritsar districts with
an investment of Rs 709.05 crore. Also on the anvil is an IT project in Mohali
district with an investment of Rs 27.50 crore. The committee also okayed two
projects of Japfa Comfeed India Ltd and Bectors Food Specialised Ltd in the
agricultural sector involving an investment of Rs 110 crore.
Besides, the empowered committee approved seven housing projects with a total
investment of Rs 3,188.54 crore. These include projects of Ideas Promoter &
Developers (P) Ltd, Ludhiana; PACL India Ltd, Mohali; TPSMS Projects &
Consultants Ltd, Chandigarh; Alka India Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi; and Sikandar
Coloniser Pvt. Ltd, Chandigarh.
In the last one year, the committee approved 317 mega projects in industrial,
housing and agro sectors aggregating a total investment of Rs 89,736.37 crore.
