The National Institute of Technology Karnataka in Surathkal is proposing to develop a mega hostel (Rs 55 crore) and an international student's hostel (Rs 20 crore). The total cost of the project is nearly Rs 100 crore. While the hostel will accommodate 1,250 students, the international student's hostel will accommodate 310 students.
NITK is also renovating the existing buildings. Besides, a vehicular underpass is being proposed to connect the eastern and western side of the campus at a cost of Rs 11 crore. The institute is also planning to water and electrical works, solid waste management and water harvesting at a likely cost of Rs 10 crore.
