Finolex to build new plant at Pune
A Business Correspondent
PVC Pipes
Finolex Industries Ltd, the largest PVC pipe manufacturer in
the country, has acquired 20 acres of land at Urse, Pune, Maharashtra, to set up
a new plant to manufacture PVC pipes. After commissioning of the new plant at
Urse, the total installed capacity for manufacturing of PVC pipes will be
100,000 mtpa.
The company had expanded its PVC pipes capacity from 67,000 mtpa in 2005-06 to
74,000 mtpa in 2006-07.
Among other projects, a 43-mw power plant is under construction. The company may
sell a part of the power generated. The power project is expected to complete in
November this year.
Finolex is also planning to develop more than 70 acres of vacant land at its
pipes plant in Chinchwad, Pune. The company is considering various options like
setting up an SEZ as a developer or outright sale of the property to a
developer. The company is hopeful of concluding the proposal shortly.
The company's port at Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, is currently a fair season port
i.e. it is closed during monsoon. The company has been planning to construct a
breakwater to make the port all weather. The company has already received
environmental clearance for the project and the contract for construction has
been given to Afcons.
