he Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has taken up three
water projects, namely Middle Vaitarna, Gargai and Pinjal, to match the demand
and supply of water and thereby reform the distribution system and improve
infrastructure.
The corporation has decided to spend Rs 250 crore for the replacement of water
supply pipes that are about 100 years old. The corporation will consider the
traffic while digging the roads to lay the pipelines. It has also decided to
concretise at least 200 metres of road in Mumbai every year.
To improve the infrastructure and distribution system of water supply, the
corporation is planning to go for a universal metering system. The bill would be
collected according to the consumption of water by family or individual.
