The ministry of shipping, road transport and highways has approved a sum of Rs 31.50 crore for road improvement works under Central Road Fund scheme in Tamil Nadu. The amount will be used for widening and strengthening 14 road stretches of state highways, major district roads and other district roads.
Following are the stretches where the road improvement work will be carried out:
u Improvements to Krishnagiri Varatannapalli-Kandhakuppam road from km 1/0-18/5 and 18/9-23/0, including minor bridge at 9/6 (Rs 475 lakh) and improvements to Bargur-Jegadevi road from km 0/0-8/2 (Rs 150 lakh) in Krishnagiri.
u Widening and strengthening of Cuddalore-Chittor road to Arpakkam via Kovoor from km 0/0-11/0 (Rs 200 lakh) and widening and strengthening of Perumanam road from km 0/0-8/6 (Rs 160 lakh) in Thirupattur.
u Raising the road level in Mettur-Palakkanuthu-Oddanchatram-Dharapuram-Kangeyam-Erode road from km 16/0-20/0 (Rs 405 lakh) in Dindigul.
u Widening and improving Thandalam-Perambakkam road from km 5/0-10/0 (Rs 350 lakh) in Sriperumpudur.
u Widening and improvements to Palani-Dharapuram road (via) Alangiam from km 27/250-32/680 (Rs 275 lakh) in Coimbatore.
u Widening and strengthening of Alwarthirunagari-Nazereth-Sathankulam-Ittamozhi-Valliyur road from km 37/0-41/0 (Rs 250 lakh) in Thiruchendur.
u Construction of high-level bridge at km 69/2 of Salem-Thiruppathur-Vaniyambadi road across Thenpennai river (Rs 250 lakh) in Dharmapuri.
u Widening and strengthening of Ammanpuram-Arumuganeri road from km 0/0-4/8 (Rs 200 lakh) in Tuticorin.
u Widening and improvements to Karaikudi-C. Siruvayal road from km 0/0-7/4 (Rs 200 lakh) and to Aathanigudi-Konappattu road fro km 0/0-1/6 (Rs 50 lakh) in Sivaganga.
u Strengthening Arcot
Villupuram road from km 110/0-114/4 (Rs 150 lakh)
in Thiruvannamalai.
u Widening and strengthening of Grivalam road in Palani town (Rs 40 lakh).
In March this year an amount of Rs 77.70 crore was sanctioned for carrying out road improvement works in 26 road stretches in the state.
