PM News Bureau
The West Bengal Public Works Minister Kshiti Goswami recently
laid the foundation for a new 130-metre long bridge over Sutunga river at
Mathabhanga. The bridge will be constructed within two years.
The concrete bridge will replace the old and damaged wooden bridge. Once
constructed over 2.5 lakh people of Mathabhanga town, Sitalkuchi block, Sitai
block, Mathabhanga-I and Mathabhanga-II blocks would benefit.
Meanwhile, plans to construct concrete bridges over Singimari river at Adabari
to connect Dinhata and Sitai and over Teesta river to connect Mekhliganj and
Haldibari are also on the cards. The cost of construction of the two bridges is
huge and the state seeks aid from the Centre.
The estimated cost for Sutunga bridge will be disclosed once the height of the
bridge is been finalised. The state government will demolish a few
constructions, including some residences, prior to construction of the bridge.
The PWD minister also laid the foundation for a road bridge over Kaljani river
at Balarampur to connect Dinhata and Tufanganj sub-divisions through Chilakhana.
