Following a long delay, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region
Development Authority has floated tenders inviting bids for Mithi river
rejuvenation programme.
The works include desilting and deepening Vakola nullah from Vakola bridge
(Ch.645.00 m) to SCLR (Ch. 2525.00 m), construction of retaining walls along
Vakola bridge (Ch. 645.00 m) to SCLR (Ch. 2525.00 m), and from Mini Confluence
(Ch. 3300.00 m) to CST Bridge (Ch. 5883.00 m) on BKC side and from Mini
Confluence (Ch. 3300.00 m) to (Ch. 4350.00 m) on LBS Marg side and a high-tech
'diaphragm wall' along the river (Ch. 4350.00 m) to CST Bridge (Ch. 5883.00 m).
A diaphragm wall is a retaining wall strengthened by a slurry or liquid-filled
trench that exerts hydraulic pressure on the concrete structure, used often to
retain groundwater.
The last date of opening the tender is September 7. MMRDA will accept joint
tenders also for the above works. The entire project is estimated to cost Rs
119.6 crore.
