TWL's wide range of hydraulic excavators
In mining equipment, Titagarh Wagons Limited primarily offers
higher range of hydraulic excavators. The excavators range from 40 T and above.
Besides 40 T, other classes of the excavators are 60 T, 100 T and 140 T. In each
range the company offers two models: Loading machines (FACE shovel) and
excavators (Backhoe one). The excavators basically cater to the requirements of
iron ore, coal and limestone mines.
In 2005, TWL acquired the heavy engineering division of Hyderabad Industries
Limited, a C.K. Birla Group of companies, based at Himdmotor near Kolkata. This
company was in the manufacturing of mining equipment. Over the past two years,
TWL is manufacturing mining equipment and serving the mining sector. The heavy
engineering division manufactures mining equipment.
The company has sold a couple of machines in the market. The order book position
stands at Rs 700 crore. There are orders from the Steel Authority of India, NMDC
for supply of mining equipment. From Coal India and its subsidiaries the company
is having orders for equipment and supply of spare parts. "The company also
offers long term maintenance contract to its clients after selling its
equipment," says G. D. Modi, G.M. Commercial, Titagarh Wagons Limited.
The Kolkata-based company also plans to manufacture bigger size excavators
within 10 to 15 years. "First, the company wants to establish itself in the
hydraulic excavator market segment and then depending on the market conditions
may launch bigger size excavators," says Modi. The company also has plans to
manufacture material handling equipment in the near future.
Growing at the rate of 20 to 25 per cent, the turnover stands at Rs 500 crore.
The company is continuously opting for technology upgradation for its equipment.
The other type of equipment catering to other construction and infrastructure
sectors is crawler cranes. The company offers 75 T crawler cranes which are
widely used for road and bridge construction and piling operations. In the
second quarter of the next financial year the company plans to come out with 40
T and 90 T models of crawler cranes.
Titagarh Wagons is one of the largest manufacturers of railway wagons and
railway bridges. With respect to the railway sector, the company manufactures
wagons, DMU coaches, railway bridges, etc. Today, TWL has a wide range of
engineering products in mining, heavy earthmoving and other infrastructure
development related activities.
