Village electrification launched in WB district

Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana was launched in
Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal on January 30, 2008. Under this
nationwide electrification programme, West Bengal has so far provided 32 project
proposals covering 18 districts. Of these, 13 projects spanning as many
districts were sanctioned during the 10th Plan period (2002-07) with a total
investment of Rs 385 crore. As of January 18, 2008, a total of Rs 395 crore was
released to West Bengal for RGGVY projects. In the ongoing 11th Plan period, 19
projects including 13 supplementary projects will be taken up for
implementation.
Launched in April 2005, RGGVY aims to provide electricity in all villages and
habitations in the next four years and envisages access to electricity to all
rural households. This programme has now been brought under the ambit of Bharat
Nirman.
