HZL to expand zinc smelter capacity

Hindustan Zinc Ltd of Vedanta Resources (Sterlite) Group is planning to expand the capacity of its zinc smelter at Udaipur, Rajasthan, from 80,000 tpa to 1,00,000 tpa. During the expansion, roaster and sulphuric acid plants will also be installed; sulphuric acid production will up from 1,30,000 tpa to 4,19,000 tpa. Zinc concentrate will be sourced from the captive mines of HZL and also imported.
The total cost of the project is Rs 220 crore wherein Rs 76 crore has been earmarked for environment pollution control measures.
The expansion proposal has been approved by the board of directors of the company which has recommended the proposal for environment clearance. l
