The Central Electricity Authority has asked Andhra Pradesh
Generation Corporation to fast track work at the site of its 500-mw Kakatiya
thermal power project so as to complete hydro testing on schedule i.e. by May.
The project, located at Chelpur village in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh,
is scheduled to commission in November 2008. The Rs 2,077-crore project is being
financed by Rural Electrification Corporation.
A team of CEA officials who visited the project site recently assessed the
various construction activities and met with project authorities as well as
representatives of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, the main plant package
supplier, and BGR Energy System (India) Ltd, the balance-of-plant package
supplier, to discuss the progress.
During the tour CEA officials noted the delay in supply of high-pressure parts
to the site. Accordingly, the project managers and Bhel were told to ensure
timely delivery of high-pressure pipings so that they could be erected soon
after the completion of hydro testing. However, a lot of work on hydro testing
is still pending. Delay in the erection of the turbine generator was also
reported. Other main plant and civil works are in progress.
In addition, agencies have not been finalised to carry out construction
activities of DM and coal-handling plant, compressed air system, and fuel oil
system.
