CALS Refineries to set up two projects

CALS Refineries Ltd has signed an MoU with Haldia Development Authority and West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Ltd for setting two refineries at Haldia and Nayachar. The refineries, with a total capacity of 20 million tpa, will come up at the proposed site for the petroleum, chemical and petrochemical investment region (PCPIR) of the state. The refineries will produce petrol, diesel, LPG, naphtha and propylene.
The project will be developed in three phases at a total investment of Rs 20,000 crore. Phases I and II, entailing 5-million tpa capacity each, will be spread over 400-500 acres of land in Haldia. Both these phases are estimated to cost Rs 4,000 crore each including cost of land. These projects will be commissioned by the first quarter and end of 2010, respectively.
Phase-III involves the setting up of a greenfield refinery project at Nayachar by 2013. This project alone is slated to cost
Rs 12,000 crore.
The refinery project is being implemented with the involvement of international consultants and contractors like Ventech Engineering and Chemtex of USA, Mott MacDonald and KBC advanced Technologies of UK, and Lohrmann International of Germany.
