Nelcast Ltd, the country's largest producer of spheroidal graphite (SG) iron castings and leading producer of grey iron castings, is expanding the capacity of its plants at Gudur in Andhra Pradesh and Ponneri in Tamil Nadu.
The expansion is being implemented in two phases. In phase-I, the capacity was increased from 1.02 lakh tonnes to 1.26 lakh tonnes at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore, in September 2007. Phase-II, also costing Rs 30 crore, will hike the capacity to 1.50 lakh tonnes by the last quarter of 2008-09. The funds for phase-II will be raised through a public issue. When contacted, a company official refused to comment on the expansion plan.
With this expansion, the company aims to boost its turnover from Rs 400 crore presently to Rs 600 crore in 2008-09.
