Bhavnagar Energy Company Ltd has initiated steps to set up a 500-600 mw lignite-based pithead power project, based on circulating fluidized bed technology, at Padva, Ghogha taluka, in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat.
Speaking to Projectswire from Bhavnagar, Mehul Danait, Finance Director, BECL, said that the project would entail an investment of Rs 2,000-2,200 crore depending on the final picture emerging from the bid process. The company is in the process of seeking bids for general civil and structural works. The response for the bidding process for supply of steam generator (CFBC boiler) units and steam turbine generator units, both with associated auxiliaries, has been encouraging, a company spokesperson said. Power generated from the plant will be exported to the state grid.
BECL is a joint venture company formed by seven state PSUs, namely Gujarat Power Corporation Ltd, Gujarat State Investments Ltd, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd, Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd, Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd, Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Company Ltd and Gujarat State Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd.
