Bhavnagar Energy to set up power plant

Bhavnagar Energy Company Ltd has initiated steps to set up a
500-600 mw lignite-based pithead power project, based on circulating fluidized
bed technology, at Padva, Ghogha taluka, in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat.
Speaking to Projectswire from Bhavnagar, Mehul Danait, Finance Director, BECL,
said that the project would entail an investment of Rs 2,000-2,200 crore
depending on the final picture emerging from the bid process. The company is in
the process of seeking bids for general civil and structural works. The response
for the bidding process for supply of steam generator (CFBC boiler) units and
steam turbine generator units, both with associated auxiliaries, has been
encouraging, a company spokesperson said. Power generated from the plant will be
exported to the state grid.
BECL is a joint venture company formed by seven state PSUs, namely Gujarat Power
Corporation Ltd, Gujarat State Investments Ltd, Gujarat Mineral Development
Corporation Ltd, Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd, Gujarat Alkalies and
Chemicals Ltd, Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Company Ltd and Gujarat State
Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd.
