Supply of Coal
Katmandu has urged New Delhi to ask public sector Coal India Ltd to revert to the earlier practice of floating tenders for the supply of coal to Nepal so that
private companies in that country can also participate and get the required
quota of coal directly from CIL.
The Government of Nepal has written to the Indian government stating that the
country did not have any coal mines and depended on supplies from India to meet
its coal requirements, and requested the allocation of coal to Nepalese
entrepreneurs on floor price basis.
The Indian government has decided to take up this issue through a committee to
be constituted by CIL. India has also asked Nepal to nominate its representative
for the committee so that talks between the two countries can take off. The
price of coal will also be decided by the committee.
