Integrated textile park in Howrah

Pradip Bhattacharya

The Chamber of Textile Trade and Industry, headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, is planning to set up an integrated textile park in Howrah district, Vijay K. Binaykia, president of the chamber told Projectwire. The textile park, which will have an initial investment of Rs 550 crore, will come up on 100 acres of land along NH-6 near Sankrail in Howrah.
Bengal Integrated Textile Park Ltd, a special purpose vehicle, has been formed to develop the project. The SPV has identified the land and is in the process of acquiring it from the state government. Out of 100 acres, about 78 acres are expected to be acquired shortly.
According to Binaykia, a total of 150 units are expected to be set up in phase-I of the project that will include manufacturing textile units from other regions as well. The textile park will showcase textile potential in various states.
COTTI has sent the detailed project report to the ministry of textiles and sought a Central grant that is available to construct basic infrastructure in textile parks. The DPR estimates Rs 110 crore as the amount required for building this infrastructure.
