Rs 500 crore dairy project for Miamala in Idukki district

Kerala-based Milgram Group will launch Rs 500 crore Milgram
Dairy Village Development project at Miamala in Idukki district to increase milk
production in Kerala.
According to company director, Korah John, the complex, spread over 600 acres
with 150 dairy farms, would have 50,000 highly productive cattle and comprise
high-tech dairying with international standards and farm houses.
In phase-I, it would have between 4,000 and 5,000 cows with an expected milk
production of 50,000 litres. The production would be scaled up to 5,00,000
litres by raising the number of cattle to 50,000 in due course. The project
would be funded through investment from NRIs, banks, public and the parent
company.
An independent farmhouse would have a minimum of 2.5 acres, a farm shed, farm
equipment, 10 high-breed cows or heifers and a vermin-compost unit for a minimum
investment of Rs 22.95 lakh.
The project, which includes 25,000 farmers and 250 milk collection cetnres, also
aims to increase the quality of milk by procuring high quality milk from Idukki
district.
