Punjab to invest Rs 5,156 cr on renewable energy

Punjab expects to see investment of Rs 5,156 crore in its
renewable energy sector during the ongoing 11th Plan period. The agrarian state
has targeted to achieve 10 per cent contribution of renewable energy sources in
total power generation, by 2012. Punjab estimates that during the 11th Plan
period, 916.59 million kwh of additional power generation will be achieved
through renewable sources (see table). During the three years ending 2007,
Punjab produced over 300 million kwh of electricity through renewables, out of
which 128.83 million kwh was generated in 2007 alone.
