IISCO Steel Plant

IISCO Steel Plant is adding new crude steel capacity of 2.5 million tpa that is targeted to commission by 2010-11.
The current capacity of around 0.55 million tpa, coming through existing machinery, will be gradually phased out.
The IISCO plant, located at Burnpur in Burdwan district of West Bengal, was amalgamated with Steel Authority of India Ltd in February 2006 to become its fifth integrated plant—the others being Bhilai (Chhattisgarh), Rourkela (Orissa), Bokaro (Jharkhand) and Duragpur (West Bengal).
The over-130-year old Indian Iron & Steel Company Ltd was nationalised in 1972 and became Sail's subsidiary in March 1979.
