New Samtel unit at Ghaziabad
Samtel Color Ltd's new picture tubes unit at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh is expected to commence operation by this month-end. The Rs 340-crore unit has been set up near the company's existing manufacturing facility. It will manufacture 21-inch super flat picture tubes and colour picture tubes for computer monitors that would cater to the local computer assembling market.

India, Iraq tie-up in power generation
The Iraqi government proposes to collaborate with India in the development of power generation equipment and heavy industries. The proposition came up when an official delegation from Iraq met Manohar Joshi, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, and held discussions on cooperation between the two governments in this area. Iraq has awarded BHEL a $200-million contract for its "Baiji" gas turbine power station. India will also provide training to Iraqi engineers.

Rail overbridge in UP
The Railway Ministry has received a proposal from the Government of Uttar Pradesh for the construction of a road overbridge at Dharamshala Bazar in UP on deposit terms. Details and cost of the project are being worked out.

Nicco electron beam cable project
The Rs 37-crore project for electron beam irradiated cables in the Shyamnagar cable factory of Nicco Corporation Ltd was to be commissioned last month. On completion, the project is expected to open up the market in sophisticated applications. The project has got the support of the Technology Development Board of the GoI and ICICI.
