Gail to expand HBJ pipeline
By A Business Correspondent
The Gas Authority of India Ltd will shortly commence work on the expansion of the HBJ pipeline. At a recent meeting held by the board, capex of Rs 3,000 crore was sanctioned for various projects. The HBJ pipeline expansion project is one of the major projects of GAIL, which will enable the transmission and marketing of the regasified LNG planned to be brought at Dahej by Petronet LNG Ltd.
The project involves laying of 610 km of 42" dia pipeline from Dahej in Gujarat to Vijaipur in MP at an estimated expenditure of Rs 2,936 crore. GAIL will lift 20 mmscmd (million standard cubic meters per day) of the regasified LNG for transmission and distribution through the pipeline system in the states of Gujarat and MP. Downstream of Vijaipur in MP, the gas would be further distributed in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi using GAIL's existing pipeline network. With the expansion in place, the total gas handling capacity of the HBJ pipeline system would go up from the current level of 33 mmscmd to around 60 mmscmd. The project is scheduled for mechanical completion by December 2003.
