In Brief

Maratha Cement Works to go on stream
The 2-million tonne greenfield cement plant, Maratha Cement Works, being set up by Gujarat Ambuja Cements is likely to go on stream during the first week of 2002. Work on the project started in June 2000 and the expenditure on the same is estimated to be Rs 675 crore as against the original estimate of Rs 600 crore. The plant is being set up at Chandrapur in Maharashtra.

MPT berth project may be delayed
The Rs 220-crore project for the construction of two berths at Mormugao Port in Goa may be delayed. Earlier, MPT had handed over two multipurpose cargo berths to ABG Goa Port on BOOT basis for 30 years. The project was part of MPT's plan to partially privatise its operation. As per the earlier schedule, the project was supposed to have commenced operation by December 2002. But, according to authorities, work on the berth has not yet started. They say it would take at least 18 months to complete the project from the date of commencement of work.
