Maharashtra: Best Industrial Climate: World Bank-CII survey
The World Bank and CII recently published findings of their Firm Analysis and Competitiveness Survey for 2000 and 2001 for 10 major industrial states for adjudging the Best Industrial Climate. Out of 1,029 companies, 1,029 managers responded.
Thirty-eight per cent ranked Maharashtra as having the Best Industrial Climate; Gujarat followed at number two with 23.1 per cent. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were next in line.
The four major industries identified for the survey were textiles, garments, pharmaceuticals and electronics. These industries were selected because they were the major contributors to exports and required cost-effective competitiveness. The parameters for the survey were: value added per worker, regulatory burden, energy costs and Interest costs and delays in custom houses.
