Hyderabad will soon have the distinction of having the longest flyover in the country. Spanning over 16 km, the mega flyover project will be completed in two phases and will be ready within 18 months from the date of commencement of work. Starting from Sanjeevareddy Nagar in the north-west to Malakpet in the south-east, the road junctions covered along this route are Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Erramanzil, Khairatabad, Mozam Jahi Market, Chaderghat and Nalgonda X Roads
According to officials of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority, the first phase will cover the stretch between Sanjeevareddy Nagar and Khairatabad, a distance of 6.7 km and will cost Rs 148.50 crore. This includes the cost for a flyover on the east-west direction from Greenlands junction (between Begumpet and Somajiguda) to Banjara Hills Road Nos 1&2 crossing the Rajiv Gandhi statue, Punjagutta junction and Nagarjuna Hills junction.
HUDA, which has undertaken the construction of the flyover, had entrusted the feasibility survey to S.N. Bhode & Associates. The technical feasibility survey, preparation of topographic sheets and traffic database for the construction of this phase have been completed and tenders are expected to be invited soon for taking up work for the first phase.

The estimates and drawings for the balance stretch from Khairatabad to Malakpet, a distance of about 9 km, are under preparation.
The development of Hyderabad city has been along the National Highways, particularly the NH-9, which runs from the north-west to the south-east direction. The traffic, therefore, is maximum on this corridor between Sanjeevreddy Nagar and Malakpet.
