TNEB awards upgrading contract to VA TECH HYDRO



A consortium of VA TECH HYDRO India Pvt. Ltd and VA TECH ESCHER WYSS FLOVEL Ltd have been awarded the two orders by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for renovation, modernisation and uprating work at the two power stations.

The work, which has already started, will be completed within two years and involves uprating of the Mettur Dam Powerhouse. The power output of the four horizontal Francis turbines of 10 mw each will be increased by 25 per cent. The Dam, originally commissioned in 1946, is located on the Cauvery river 300 km south-west of Chennai.

Work on the Papanasam Dam PH will involve uprating from 4x7 mw to 4x8 mw (Vertical Francis). The dam was originally commissioned in 1951 and is located 580 km from Chennai.

The scope of the work for consortium leader VA TECH ESCHER WYSS FLOVEL includes new turbine runners, governors, turbine and generator rehabilitation, components, main inlet valves and auxiliaries and rehab of gates.
