Wind energy potential pegged at 45,000 mw
By A Business Correspondent
Most of the participants at the special session on wind energy, which was a part of the CII AGM, were of the opinion that potential of wind energy in the country was not fully tapped. According to Ajit Kumar Gupta, Advisor, Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, India has potential to generate 45,000 mw power from this source. The absence of a favourable policy was cited as the main reason for the poor record of wind energy. Lack of awareness and right education were also responsible for the absence of any notable focus on wind energy.
One of the suggestions made to popularise wind energy was to issue "green bonds" to those organisations using wind power which should be made tradable. Also, the Indian Wind Energy Association is gaining strength by the day, which should help the industry to present its case more vocally in the coming days.
