Mumbai tunnel project ahead of schedule

By A Business Correspondent

Work on the 12-km long tunnel from Bhandup complex to Malad Hill reservoir and further up to Charkop in north-west Mumbai is progressing well ahead of schedule. Hindustan Construction Company Ltd, which is executing the contract, has already completed 2.5 km stretch of the tunnel from Bhandup to vent hole four-and-a-half months ahead of schedule. Boring works at Malad have commenced though extremely hard strata are posing a problem. Shaft excavation work at Charkop has been completed. Further, shaft excavation work at Liberty Garden, Malad, going on while well sinking work has been completed.
