MMTC proposes SEZ in Orissa
MMTC is keen on setting up an SEZ at Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex, Duburi, in Orissa. The corporation has had initial consultations with Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation. The latter has confirmed the availability of about 10,000 acres of land and the required infrastructure like power, water, rail connectivity and telecom. MMTC will now send its proposal to the Union Ministry of Commerce for sanction. IDCO is also on the lookout for partners for developing a Special Tourism Area at Puri.
Mining project in Jharkhand
The Punjab SEB is taking up captive coal mining works on 12,000 sq. km of land in the Pachhwara region in Pankur district. It has received the requisite permission from the chief minister of Jharkhand. The Mines and Geology Department, Jharkhand, will issue mining lease for the purpose. PSEB will pay an annual royalty of Rs 1 crore in lieu of the work.
BMWs to be soon Made in India
German luxury carmaker, BMW, is considering setting up a production base in India. BMW had earlier planned to enter India as a joint venture with the Hero Group to produce the 3-series and 5-series range of luxury cars. The company is evaluating the changes in the local market and the new regulations as part of its plans.
Pipeline from Burma under study
Unocal, Brown & Root, and the Indian government are believed to have conducted initial feasibility studies to construct a 1,100-km undersea gas pipeline from Burma to India. Unocal and the Burmese military dictatorship have been looking to find new markets for Burmese gas.
Tourist Park proposed in Guwahati
Assam Industrial Development Corporation proposes to establish a resort-cum-recreation park at Numalijolah, Amingaon, in Guwahati. The corporation already possesses the required land totalling 40 acres. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 50 crore.
