Rs 350 cr. for Haldia Port dredging
The Central government has allocated Rs 350 crore to Haldia Port for capital dredging to ensure adequate draft for bringing bigger ships into the twin riverine ports, Haldia and Kolkata, in West Bengal. The proposed capital dredging could help open up a shorter channel between Kolkata and Haldia from the Sandhead route, which would also help in reducing the perennial problem of siltation.

Jindal Steel's projects on schedule
In April 2002, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd commissioned a mini-blast furnace with capacity to produce 2.5 lakh mt of hot metal. Implementation of a rail and universal beam mill project is in an advanced stage and will be commissioned by March 2003. Also, the 2.5 million tonne coal washery project is nearing completion and is expected to be commissioned in July. The company has already commissioned a 55-mw power plant in October 2001, six months ahead of schedule.

Kerala to set up special zones
A string of industrial and trade zones will be created across Kerala to attract investors into the state, primarily in thrust areas such as IT, manufacturing, healthcare and education. The state Industries Department will mainly play the role of a facilitator.
