Floating dock nearing completion

A floating dock with a capacity of 500 tonnes will be ready at Pondicherry in a month's time. The Rs 5 crore dock is being set up by South India Corporation (Agencies) Ltd. On commissioning ships with larger drafts can be built at the port. Currently, all shipbuilding activities have been restricted to vessels up to 3 metres draft due to the shallowness of the channel of the New Port leading to the sea.
