Special policy for SEZs in Gujarat
Gujarat has announced a special policy for promoting the growth of SEZs. It has provided a package of various incentives such as relief in sales tax, stamp duty and electricity for those units that may be established in the state. SEZs will also be treated as foreign area for the purpose of trade and tariffs. These incentives are over and above those provided by the Union government. Besides Kandla, Positra and Surat the government also proposes to convert Mundra and Dahej ports into SEZs.
JSEB to outsource power services
The Jharkhand SEB has prepared an initial report on engaging private parties to enter the power distribution sector. The work of metre reading and maintenance, supply of conductors and fuse repairing and collection of bills would be outsourced by the SEB. When approved this month-end, the scheme would be implemented on an experimental basis in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Hazaribagh.
Chinese order for Bharat Forge
Bharat Forge has bagged a Rs 100 crore order for supply of engine components to a Chinese automobile parts supplier. The Pune-based company will provide crankshafts and knuckle assembly parts over a period of five years.
L&T to export cement to Europe
L&T has identified Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy and Belgium as major export destinations for its cement surplus following a glut in the domestic market. It has commenced export of clinker to Spain. In 2001-02, the company exported 1.4 million tonnes of clinker.
