End in sight for Keishampat reservoir

By A Business Correspondent

The Keishampat reservoir work in Imphal, the capital of Manipur, is progressing on a war-footing and is expected to be completed by this month-end. Work on the 1 lakh gallon capacity underground water reservoir started in the last week of April 2002. The Union Ministry of Urban Development has provided a grant of Rs 2 crore for the project. The reservoir is located at the Keishampat power house complex.

The pump house for the reservoir, though still to be constructed, is expected to be ready by the end of June. A 50 horsepower pump will also be installed at the reservoir. The reservoir will get direct water supply from the Kangchup water supply scheme.

Besides, an overhead water reservoir is also being planned at Keishampat. An amount of Rs 1 crore has already been sanctioned for this project. The work of replacing old pipelines for distributing water is also likely to be taken up shortly. For this Rs 11 crore has been sanctioned from the non-lapsable pool of Central resources. Replacement of old pipes includes the Leimakhong-Kangchup and Kangchup-Iroisemba pipelines.
