Water supply plan in Jaipur
The Jaipur District Administration has planned a Chambal-Dholpur-Bharatpur water supply project for which it has initiated survey and mapping of the area. The survey work is expected to be completed in six months. The tendering process for the project is already underway.
ADB funds for water transmission project
The Gujarat Water Infrastructure Ltd is planning a water transmission project between Anjar-Kukama and Anjar-Mundra-Mandvi. The project is a part of the ADB aided $625 million Gujarat Earthquake and Reconstruction Programme. The successful bidder would be asked to design, build and operate bulk water transmission main. Work also includes construction of pumping stations and mechanical, civil and electrical works.
The cost of safe drinking water
The Central government has said at least Rs 40,000 crore would be required to provide comprehensive safe drinking water for all. The government plans to bring out maps based on a combination of satellite and ground images for all the states. During the 10th Plan the government will launch sophisticated satellites that would send appropriate pictures of ground resources, especially water resources.
Opposition cry for Telugu Ganga
Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh are demanding the completion of the Telugu Ganga Project by 2004. The project is slated to solve the water problem in Rayalaseema area. The project, which started in 1982, has not yet been completed despite funding from external agencies.
