Foundation stone for Badarpur Bridge laid
By A Business Correspondent
The foundation stone for the Badarpur railway bridge across river Barak was recently laid. This is a part of the Rs 1,600-crore Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion project undertaken by the Railways. The project is expected to cost Rs 29.14 crore and is likely to be completed in two years.
The bridge, the longest in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section, will have a length of 409.8 mt and it will have 10 piers. A significant feature of this bridge is the provision for a footpath. Apart from the depth of the river, which is a minimum of 15 mt, posing a challenge for the engineers, there is also the problem of militants operating in the hilly region. A special force of the Rapid Action Force has been deployed to ensure smooth flow of work.
