Nirma project due in September
Nirma's soda ash plant debottlenecking project is on schedule. The company has already spent Rs 46 crore on the project. All machinery and equipment required have been purchased and the project is expected to be completed by this September.
ITC Grand Towers Hotel delayed
The Grand Towers Hotel Project (see picture) coming up in Mumbai will be completed by the end of Year 2003. The Rs 260-crore, 250-room project was earlier scheduled to open in December 2002. Another ITC project, Sonar Bangla, will, however, open as per schedule this year-end.
Eicher Motor HCV plant in July
The Rs 110 crore HCV project implemented by Eicher Motor is nearing completion and could start operations latest by the end of next month. The plant has a capacity to manufacture 3,000 HCVs per year. The plant is coming up at Pithampur in MP.
Gandak bridge inaugurated
A road bridge across Gandak river linking Bihar and UP was recently inaugurated by Railway Minister Nitish Kumar. With the opening of the 896-metre bridge traffic movement between the two states has eased considerably. The bridge has also reduced the distance to Nepal by 100 km.
KRC completes Owk Tunnel
The Konkan Railway Corporation has completed the construction of a tunnel at Owk village in Karnool district of AP. The project is a part of the World Bank aided Srisailam Right Bank Canal Project. The AP government awarded the Rs 18.5 crore project to KRC in June 2000. The 1.9-km long tunnel has a diametre of 5.5 metres.
Cochin Port slams SBM project
Cochin Port Trust authorities have criticised the Kochi Refineries' proposal to set up a Rs 750 crore Single Buoy Mooring project. According to CPT authorities, the proposed project would bring down its revenue considerably. Alternatively, the port trust has suggested increasing the draft at the port, developing a new oil terminal or developing SBM facility in Puthuvypeen area.
Janakpuri Flyover flagged off
The flyover on Najafgarh road-Outer Ring road in Delhi was opened to the public recently. The Rs 7 crore project was completed on time. The 500-metre long flyover will smoothen the flow of traffic in Janakpuri, Dwarka, Najafgarh and Uttam Nagar.
