16 ROBs planned in Jharkhand
By A Business Correspondent
The Railway Minister has sanctioned the construction of 16 road overbridges in Jharkhand as a part of its drive to increase passenger safety. The Konkan Railway Corporation is undertaking the Rs 100-crore project on a priority basis. All the ROB works are expected to be ready by the end of 2003.
KRC has completed the preliminary survey for the projects and has issued tenders for 15 ROBs; the tender for the remaining one ROB would be issued in the near future. Work on 15 of the projects has been divided into six packages ranging from Rs 12 crore to Rs 28 per package. The corporation will award the actual construction works to interested contractors by mid-July.
According to KRC sources, "The MoR and the state government will fund the project jointly. In fact, the Government of Jharkhand has already deposited its share of the funds."
